Jurisdiction:
Boston Municipal Court covers the Downtown Boston area, Chinatown, North End, West End, South End through Massachusetts Avenue, Beacon Hill.
Hearings:
When cited for a moving violation, in the BMC jurisdiction Court Code 01, the violator must check the correct box, marked appeal request on the reverse side of the citation. Mail the request to the Registry of Motor Vehicles. When notifying the RMV be sure the address listed is the correct address. The Registry of Motor Vehicles will forward to the Court the necessary documentation. The Court will send the violator a notice of hearing including the offense, address and date and time of the hearing. If a conflict exists, you must contact the Court prior to the hearing date and request an alternative hearing date. On the scheduled date of the hearing, if the violator fails to appear he/she will lose their right to be heard. Appeals of the Clerk Magistrates decision:
If the violator or police prosecutor is not satisfied with the decision of the Clerk Magistrate, either side may request a De Novo hearing in front of a judge of the Boston Municipal Court. This request to appeal must be announced immediately following the decision of the Magistrate. A new hearing date will be set at that time, convenient for both parties.
Payments:
The court does not accept payments on civil motor vehicle infractions standing alone. Payments must be forwarded to The Registry of Motor Vehicles, within twenty days after the date of judgment.
